Y20 Week: From Consensus to Action

Join policy experts and delegates for a deep dive into the Y20 summit outcomes and the crucial insights leading up to the G20 summit this December.

This panel event is a unique opportunity to gain key insights from foreign policy leaders, learn about the delegate experience, and network with fellow young professionals. Together, we will reflect on the week's intense negotiations, unpack the youth consensus, and explore how to bridge the gap from the Y20 to actionable G20 policy.

Run of Show
The full closing program, From Consensus to Action: Y20 Insights and Reflections Ahead of the G20 Summit, will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, at the Peterson Institute for International Economics (1750 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC).

  • 6:00 p.m. - First Panel: The evening will kick off with our first panel. It features Y20 delegates reflecting on their experiences negotiating the Y20 Communiqué from March to August, guided by the United Nations Foundation Global Lead Next Generation Fellow. They'll discuss how they navigated differing national interests, reached consensus across the core policy tracks, and approached youth representation within the Y20 process.

  • 6:45 p.m. - Guided Networking Break: We'll have a guided networking break for the audience. During this transition, the audience will discuss a series of questions with one another. YPFP volunteers will collect their answers and hand them directly to the moderator, who'll weave these audience insights into your panel discussion.

  • 7:15 p.m. - Second Panel: Following the break, we'll transition to your panel. The main point of this session is to connect the aspirational diplomatic goals outlined in the Y20 Communiqué with real-world analysis. We will discuss what it takes to implement these policy proposals from diverse perspectives and answer the frequent question that follows these youth summits: "What's next?"

We have assembled a fantastic group to approach implementation from complementary perspectives. The panel will be moderated by Anjali V. Bhatt, Research Fellow at Peterson Institute and host of the PIIE Insider LIVE podcast, and will feature the following speakers:

  • Bob Paschale, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for GSIS and former Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and DHS Regional Attaché to Europe
  • Alexandria Maloney, Black Professionals in International Affairs President, Director of External Affairs, Kettering Foundation and Atlantic Council Non-Resident Senior Fellow, Africa Center
  • Benjamin Lutz, Director of our Y20 Summits program for 7+ years, and Founder of Al Fusaic and Communications and Operations Manager at Mediators Beyond Borders International
  • Camilla Melis, Union for the Mediterranean Task Force Member. Former Y20 Delegate for the European Union at the G20 Youth Summit in Brazil, Former Policy Advisor for the Italian G7 Presidency at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, World Bank Group MTE Climate Ambassador, and Vice President of the Mediterranean Youth Council.
