Mischa Thompson, PhD

Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Senate Committee on Foreign Relations


Dr. Mischa Thompson is the first Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where her responsibilities also include oversight of the management of the State Department and diversity efforts across international affairs agencies. She previously served as the Senior Advisor to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Special Representative on Anti-Semitism, Racism, and Intolerance and as a Director at the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe. Prior she worked as a senior national security and foreign policy advisor on the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee and in the U.S. House of Representatives. In these positions she also led bipartisan efforts to increase representation in international affairs and advance inclusive societies. She has served on the WE EMPOWER USA Advisory Group (EU, UN Women, ILO), SPSSI Council, ICAPFA Board, and held a CFR Term Membership and Fellowships with Fulbright, AAAS/APA Congressional, NSF, Salzburg, and GMF. Originally from Detroit, Dr. Thompson attended Howard University (B.S.) and University of Michigan (PhD), where she managed several laboratories, research grants, and published on intergroup relations.
