There is an exciting new national service opportunity with the Department of State, and it is one of of the top recruitment priorities for the State Department:

The Consular Fellows Program.

The Consular Fellows Program is seeking Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Portuguese and Spanish speakers to directly support the Department’s mission by providing  overseas consular services.

While at post, Consular Fellows are members of the embassy or consulate community and receive many of the same benefits as career Foreign Service members, such as housing and educational allowances for eligible family members. In addition, new Consular Fellows can receive a recruitment bonus and may be eligible for the Student Loan Repayment Plan.

The Consular Fellows Program is a temporary non-eligible appointment of up to 5 years however the experience gained while serving overseas can be invaluable if a Consular Fellow decides to apply to become a Foreign Service Officer.
